The world's first webcam was rigged to check a coffee pot
In 1991, researchers in the computer laboratory at the University of Cambridge grew tired of walking down flights of stairs only to find an empty coffee pot. Quentin Stafford-Fraser and Paul Jardetzky mounted an old video camera pointing at the pot, capturing three frames per minute. When web browsers added image support in 1993, the feed went online as the Trojan Room coffee pot, becoming the internet's very first webcam.
