The human liver can regenerate its entire mass from a tiny remnant
The human liver is the only internal organ capable of complete natural regeneration. If disease or surgical resection removes up to seventy percent of liver tissue, the remaining healthy cells rapidly enter the cell cycle. Within a few weeks, hepatocytes multiply until the liver regains its original volume and normal metabolic function, a survival mechanism originally evolved to withstand toxic dietary exposure.
