The famous tongue taste map is completely wrong
Generations of textbooks taught that sweet tastes are sensed only at the tip of the tongue, bitter at the back, and sour along the sides. In reality, all taste qualities can be detected across every region containing taste buds. The myth arose in 1942 when an American psychologist misinterpreted a 1901 German study on subtle sensitivity differences, creating a diagram that became accepted fact for decades.
