Lactic acid is not what leaves your muscles sore days after a workout
Delayed-onset muscle soreness, or DOMS, often strikes one to two days after intense exercise, leading many to blame pooled lactic acid. In truth, your body clears lactate within roughly an hour of finishing physical exertion. The lingering soreness is actually caused by microscopic tears in muscle fibers and the subsequent immune inflammation that repairs, rebuilds, and strengthens those tissues.
