Giant anteaters swallow up to 30,000 bugs a day without any teeth
Giant anteaters possess zero teeth, but they don't need them. Equipped with a two-foot-long tongue coated in microscopic backward-pointing spines and sticky saliva, an anteater can flick its tongue in and out up to 160 times per minute. To avoid painful ant bites, it raids a mound for just about a minute before moving on. Inside its stomach, a muscular, gizzard-like wall grinds thousands of insects using intentionally swallowed sand and stones.
