The father of the computer mouse used a block of wood and two wheels
In 1964, Douglas Engelbart and Bill English built the world's first computer mouse at the Stanford Research Institute. Carved from a hollowed-out block of carved wood, it housed two perpendicular metal wheels that tracked movement across a desk. Patented as an 'X-Y position indicator for a display system,' SRI nicknamed it 'mouse' because the cord trailing out the back resembled a tail.
